Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2026 · Applies to the Material Merge iPhone app and this website.
Material Merge is free. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no paid tiers. If that ever changes, these terms will be updated before it does, and you will not be charged for anything without agreeing to it first.
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing or using Material Merge ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. These terms apply to the iPhone app and to this website.
2. Accounts and guest access
You can use Material Merge either as a guest or with a full account. Guest access uses anonymous authentication and keeps your data tied to that session. Full accounts can be created with an email address and password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google Sign-In.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, and for any activity that takes place under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Guest data is deleted when you log out of a guest session. The App warns you before this happens. If you want to keep your items, create an account — your existing items and settings carry over.
3. Account security
Keep your credentials confidential and use a strong, unique password. Notify us at support@materialmerge.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account. We are not liable for losses arising from someone else using your credentials.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App for any unlawful purpose, or to upload unlawful content;
- upload content you do not have the right to upload;
- upload content that is obscene, harassing, hateful or infringes someone else's rights;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the App, other users' data, or our infrastructure;
- interfere with or disrupt the service, or attempt to circumvent rate limits or security controls;
- use automated systems to scrape or bulk-download data from the App or from shared closet links.
5. Your content and ownership
You own your content. The photos you upload and the item details you enter remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them.
You grant us a limited licence to store, process and display your content solely for the purpose of operating the App for you — for example, storing a photo so it can be shown back to you, sending it once to our AI provider to generate a description, and displaying items on a shared closet link if you choose to enable one. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
6. AI-powered features
The App uses the Anthropic Claude API to suggest item details from photos you add. These are suggestions, not facts. AI output can be wrong — it may misidentify a brand, colour, size or item type. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting suggestions before saving, and you should not rely on them for anything consequential, such as valuation, insurance or resale listings.
AI features depend on a third-party service and may be unavailable, slow or changed at any time.
7. Shared closet feature
If you enable Share My Closet, you create a public, read-only link that anyone can view without signing in. You are responsible for what you choose to publish. Consider what a stranger could infer from it — in particular, storage-location details describe places inside your home, and are only shown if you turn that field on.
You control which fields appear and can mark any item private. You can disable sharing at any time, which stops the link from resolving. We do not index or promote shared closets, but we cannot control what someone does with a link after you give it to them, including copying or re-sharing its contents.
8. Account termination
You can delete your account at any time from Settings inside the App. Deletion is permanent and removes your items, photos, outfits and profile, as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate access if you materially violate these terms — for example, by uploading unlawful content or attacking the service. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.
9. Service availability
Material Merge is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The App depends on third-party infrastructure (Google Firebase and Anthropic), and outages there will affect it. Features may be added, changed or removed over time.
The App keeps working offline for browsing and editing, and syncs your changes when your connection returns.
10. Support
Support is offered by email at support@materialmerge.com, and through the contact form inside the App under Help & Support. We aim to respond within a few business days. Support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis; we do not offer a guaranteed response time.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, that AI suggestions will be accurate, or that your data will always be available.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Material Merge is an organisational tool, not a backup service or a system of record.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Material Merge and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and the same terms are available inside the App under Settings. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any dispute arising under them will be resolved through binding arbitration or in a court of competent jurisdiction. If you use the App from elsewhere, you remain responsible for complying with your own local laws, and you keep any mandatory consumer rights your local law gives you.
